Default 2008 Bullitt - Good Deal?

First post, long time Mustang fan but never an owner. I'm seriously thinking of picking up an 08 Bullitt. I found the car on carmax, just under 40k miles for just under 20k.

The car was at another carmax dealership so I paid to have it shipped to another location closer to me. I'm under no obligation to buy, I just lose the shipping fees.

So 20k, for a Bullitt, I know I probably could find cheaper through a private seller, but through Carmax I could get my own financing.

From the pictures the car seems to be pretty clean and no damage. Pretty stoked about it, just wanted to run it by the forum.

Seems high to me... It is a special model, but it isn't like it has all that much done to it besides looks... 15hp isn't much in my book.
NADA puts the CPO value at $18k, the normal is about $17k, so I wouldn't want to pay any more than that.
They are good looking cars though. But if you are looking at spending $20k you can almost get a 2011-12 GT with 40k miles... $22k retail, used market will be cheaper than that.

..well, it does have 3.73 gears, the green paint job and a few interior bits IIRC along with a little stiffer suspension over a regular GT.

So for just under 20k means its probably like $19,995? That's not a bad starting price considering its a special edition car. If the car drives well etc. all that **** then I'd work on getting that price down a few grand.

Problem with Carfax... they don't negotiate on prices.

Interesting...learn something new every day. I would look around to see what a Bullitt goes for within an hour or two driving distance, or at least compare to a similar mileage'd 2008 GT just to get an idea of how good or bad that price is for your area.

I'm a former Bullitt owner. Since '88, I've owned 5 Stangs and the Bullitt was my favorite of all. It was a truly distinct car w/great looks & really good baseline performance for an S197. There is a unique group of owners over on imboc.com that would fully agree. Not a week went by when someone didn't stop me & ask, "is that a Bullitt?"

If the car is stock, $20k @ that mileage is a bit high. I'm thinking more like high teens. But if you like the car & it's in good shape, then it's your $$- make yourself happy.

Throw on a set of Steeda exhaust cans, perhaps a dyno tune & some lowering springs and be done w/it. She rides pretty sweet and the exhaust, even stock, is awesome. The Bullitt also handles/brakes exceptionally & is comfortable to boot. And I averaged 27 MPG on the highway w/the stock 3.73. gears! (My '14 GT w/the 3.73 gears struggles to get 21 MPG.)

I recently traded mine for a '14GT w/the track pack, only because I truly dislike the '15 models' appearance. The 5.0 is a magnificent motor compared to the 4.6 in the Bullitt and w/the TP, she handles/brakes better than the Bullitt but overall, she lacks the pizazz & attention-getting looks the Bullitt got. No one has yet asked me "is that the '14 GT in sterling gray?"

I loved & miss my Bullitt. Even in spite of the reported tech improvements the '15 model offers, I NEVER would've traded my Bullitt for a '15. I have, however, given thought to painting my '14 in dark highland green, getting some Bullitt wheels and decals and calling it a day. Heck, the only reason I traded for the '14 was because I figured this was my last Stang & I wanted it to look like a Stang still, not some Euro-flavored world car.

Shop around; talk w/the nice folks on the imboc site. I'm betting you can find a better deal on a better car.

20k is a little high. You can probably find a better deal.
