Well, I have priced a new engine at Autozone, I will be upgrading to a Reman 03 Cobra engine for $4,000. The engine builder is called Sunfire. Ive read some reviews online and have seen good and bad......im limited on money and wondering if anyone has owned a reman engine from them and how did it do?

Well I'm new to these modular engines. So I wouldnt be comfortable tearing it apart. I've looked online at engines and also called autozone about their engines. A company called Sunfire remAnufactures the engines and I have read some bad things about them, so I'm confused whethe to rebuild my old engine with some cams and forged pistons, or just order the new longblock

that sucks that she did that to you man...if you lived in Massachusetts, because the vehicle was sold for more than $800 you would have got your money back and she woulda been in a mess of trouble...i hope everything works out for you man

Correction, surefire is the rebuilder. You should be able to send in your old engine for the core charge refund, taking the price down to 3500 ish. Assuming the block isn't ruined. I would recommend it. The engines come with a 30 minute run test certificate, and the warranty is there for a reason. Swapping out engines isn't that bad. Admittedly carburetors are easier but fuel injection makes it a plug and play scenario.
As to rebuilding your old engine, you need to find out if your block is damaged. If it is then screw it and buy a long block, cheaper that way. If you rebuild your engine properly (clean the block, have it bored/honed, resurface the heads and block) you will end up spending just as much money as you would on the long block. If you do it quick and dirty, replacing only the broken parts and anything that is matched to it, then it will be a lot cheaper.

It's no biggie now, I've found an 03 Cobra engine for $3100 with 77k miles with no forced induction. Going to go look at it next week and pick it up, this time I'm taking my mechanic with me so he can check it out

you've got me, I haven't figured out how to make one yet. Like the color, goes well with the flat black rims.
Price seems kinda high if you can get a rebuilt one for 300 more that comes with a warranty. See if he will come down a little, think 2500-2700 would be more reasonable. There is a whole car on ebay with less than a day for 1800 with 43k miles. Well sorta a whole car......... course there are two whackos who think they can get 4000+ for used cobra engines with 80,000 miles.
