I wish I could be there to help support you and family in their time of loss. Good luck with the ride and make sure to give the "one finger salute" a few of those hippies from Westboro Baptist Extremists for me.

A little outside research has shown that NCPG has received an invite from the family. The plane is touching down in Jacksonville, NC and they'll be escorting from the airport to Hickory. I haven't received a call from anyone yet, but I'll keep everyone updated. I was planning on trying to set up a way for a few of us to meet the escort at its origin in Jacksonville and then also have our Western NC group meet up at another stop, probably the funeral site.

That is, unless ya'll wanted to drive to Jacksonville just to drive right back...I think I'm going to try that route, but I'll have more information on what is feasible once I get the call/email.

Keep checking back for more information please.

Hunter I doubt I will be able to make the 300 miles to Jacksonville, back to Hickory and then to Savannah in one day.

If you find out what the route is, I can head part of the way to join you.

Now I doubt I will make it. Jennie is taking leave, her, the kids and the mother-in-law are going to Alabama. I have no where to keep Maxx. He won't last that long in the house. Keep posting updates..I'm still working the Maxx issue.

I'll keep updating. I wasn't expecting anyone to make the trek east with me, but I'll try to find a location that works for anyone who wants to come out to join in on the escort.

I'm hoping to hear from the NCPG tomorrow (or soon) so I have more direct knowledge of what works best.

Hunter,

I have to work Monday, but since your route will come right past my place of work, i would be honored to drop in on the escort for a little while.
I'll watch for your updates and see if things work out

Okay, got another email from Mr. Arbuckle. I'll just past it here:

Hunter,
We are waiting to see if we will actually be escorting Mason's remains from Jacksonville to Hickory on Saturday. If so, you all are welcome to join in anywhere along the way. I will let you know if and when we do have that escort. We also will be escorting Mason's mother from the funeral home in Hickory to the St. Stephen's H.S. after the services at the funeral home. You are also welcome to join in on that escort as well. If you will let me know approx. how many will be at the services at the funeral home and/or the school, we'll see if we can reserve you all some parking spaces near the bikes. I know that everyone who knew Mason's love of his Mustang will appreciate your groups presence to Honor our Hero, LCpl Mason J. Vanderwork!

Thanks,

So, basically, in the next few days, if you think you'll be able to attend and need a parking spot at the church/school, please let me know. If you want to just drop in on the cruise that seems like it'll be fine as well, but we won't need to reserve a parking spot for that. I'd rather have a few too many than not enough though, so just let me know if you think you'll be able to make it and I'll relay that information.

Thanks again everyone.

My assumptions thus far (let me know if I'm wrong):

Hunter (Parking Spot at both locations) (Escort from Jacksonville to Church to School)
Alan (Parking Spot at both locations) (Join Escort along route to Church to School)
Steve (Parking Spot at both locations) (Join Escort along route to Church to School)
Dana (Parking Spot at both locations) (Join Escort along route to Church to School)
Howard?
Jason?

Clark (No Parking Spots) (Join Escort for a Distance along route from Jacksonville to Hickory)

JJ (Questionable)

Again, just assuming here. No worries if you need to correct me or if anyone else wants to join in.

I'd love to take part of this to honor a fallen soldier but I can't get off on Monday since I'm already gone Wednesday-Friday.

Any idea of the Route of travel Hunter if they are escorting him from Jacksonville to Hickory on Saturday via I-40 if I could figure out the timing and maybe I could fall in for a few miles.

I'm working on trying to find a neighbor that's not afraid to come over to let Maxx out and feed him.
