I grew up in SoCal and don't ever want to live there again. I grew up in Rowland heights and it is now ruined. Between the traffic and illegals, there are much better places to move to. Unfortunately I'm supposed to fly there tomorrow. I would have been there right now if my flight through Seattle was not canceled this morning. The only bright side to flying there is seeing my family.

What takes you to Alaska after growing up in SoCal?

My buddy came up here as an assistant guide and I decided to come and check it out. I thought maybe I'd get a job on the oil spill clean up. I ended up getting a job the second day I was here doing what I did in California, a plumber. I soon became a sprinklerfitter in the local 669. That was 1990 and I'm still doing it, or at least I'm doing it from an office I do want to move somewhere warm. I know if I leave Alaska I will miss it dearly. If you haven't been here you wouldn't know what I'm talking about.

I know people that have moved from Alaska and had serious withdraw. Don't move TOO far south Move somewhere that is kind of cold from time to time.
