yeah I think the sidewalls are missing just to show how it works, and if not they can simply be added, and if the manufacturer is smart they will add them.

Its ugly.

I also thought that the first time I saw them. It may be that they are just cutaway to show how it works.

I also agree about winter weather conditions. Ice etc or even mud could build up inside. I don't think these will make it to market.

Park in a 4" deep puddle during the winter. Puddle freezes solid overnight . . . come morning, is the weak link going to be that "tire's" structure or my patience?

Someone already pointed out that these are several years old. I'm sure they will never be available for sale at least in the design shown, and yes they just left the sidewall off for demonstration. If I remember correctly the wheels and tires were made as one piece so you would have to replace both the rim and tire when they wore out. I'm sure they could come up with something to make the tires replaceable but you would still need a special rim. They also put them on a forklift so I doubt there would be any problem with the amount of weight they would hold. Another problem would be the increased un sprung weight, I guess that is why the rims on that car look paper thin.
