So is there a way to find out for sure if it is a real Mach 1? What should I be looking for?

Correct me if I am wrong, but it is missing both spoilers that the Mach had, none of the decals are on it, doesn't have the rear window louvers, and the hood isn't even painted correctly.

You are correct, but 69 was the first year for the Mach 1and it is difficult to tell given 40 years have passed. He needs to get the Marti report. You can't even trust the door data plate at this point.

the Marti report is just like a carfax for classic cars right?

No, it is detailed build data about your car based on the vin. I would post one for you if I could figure out how to attach a pdf?

Let's try this. Hopefully, here is the deluxe Marti report for my 1967 Mustang convertible:

Well speaking from experience. My 69 has the spoilers, it had the clock but it still was not a Mach 1. The Marti Report (it will cost some money) is well worth it to find out exactly what you would get in the trade.

Having said that it is a clean looking 69, I'd still consider it.
