Need Advice
Hey, I am new to this forum and I currently do not own a classic Mustang. I drive a 1996 Honda Civic which I am contemplating on trading for a 1969 Mach 1. I have several thousand dollars worth of parts installed on my car and I want to be sure that I would be getting at least an equal trade value. So here's the deal...
On one hand:
1996 Honda Civic ex. Full interior, suspension is currently set up for a mix of road racing and drag racing. Car is very clean, Fully built, 2.0L engine w/ Golden Eagle sleeves, turbocharged. Car ran a 10.4 @ 144 last year on 16psi (Precision Sc3431-e .60/.63)
On the other:
1969 Mach 1 Mustang with a 351 windsor, numbers matching. It is a 3 speed automatic, and the exterior is clean minus the roof where somebody installed a sunroof. The dash has a crack on the top near one of the vents. The paint is clean, no visible rust on the floor pans or frame rails.
If we traded, the deal would be his Mach 1 plus 2,000 dollars for my civic.
How much is this car worth?
Thank you.

Post up some pics, on first glance I say it sounds like a good deal but then I don't know what your Honda is worth... (not what you have in it, what it is worth!)
It is hard to really say what a 40 year old car is worth over the internet, but pictures and othe info will help.
Likely the Mach wont be a reliable daily driver right from the get go unless the current owner has given it some TLC, but by the same token I doubt that a Honda used to routinly run in the 10s is 100% "street reliable" either...
I would prefer the Mach just for the V-8 exhaust note, but I am way biased...

Those are some of the pictures of the Mustang..
The civic has been very reliable so far. Although, I make adjustments to the tune weekly... It is actually very easy to drive daily.

That van window in the roof really sucks, but the rest of the car seems to look pretty good.
For me it is a simple problem, but I will be the first to admit my bias.
There should be plenty of folks chiming in...

I am just looking for some input. I expect to run into bias owning a civic on a mustang forum.. How valuable is the Mach 1?
Reliability isn't really an issue. I am a Technician about to start a shop, I can keep it running withut a problem. I just don't want to lose out by making a poor decision...
The way I see it, the civic is going to be more fun. Hands down, I am not going to run away from sport bikes in a stock 69 Mach 1... But on the other hand, I am tired of FWD, and a 69 Mach 1 is definately a status increase over a civic...
Also, the 351w seems to have some potential to make power...

to be honest with you, if that were my mach and you came to me with that civic and asked to trade AND give you 2 grand
i would laugh at you
but to answer your question, it wouldnt be a poor choice, your civic will never go up in value like that mach will

I would go with the mach 1. It should never really go down in value unless it just sits in a field and starts to rust away. Its too bad that someone added that sunroof. It looks like crap. Whoever put it in did a terrible job. I had a similar style sunroof installed in my 89 LX Mustang and it looked almost stock. I wonder how much it would cost to repair that or put a different sunroof in it and fix it.
As far as Civics go that does look like a nice car. You may want to consider fuel economy though if it will be your only vehicle. Does your Honda still get close to 30 mpg with all of the mods?

I am not going to him.. He came to me and made that offer, to which I have responded that I would have to think about it and let him know. I guess he just wants a go-fast car right now.
Both cars are very valuable in different aspects. Anyways, how much would you guess that Mach is worth? I have been looking around and it is hard to find the going rate for a 69 Mach 1...
