maybe or it had been creeping past the master cylinder seal slowly then more rapidly....
Do you blame it on the hill and hope the MC doesn't fail approaching a 4 way
or
Do you replaced the MC with a modern dual setup????

pay me now or pay me later.

If you do turn out to need a Master Cylinder replaced, check your porportioning valve at the same time. If that valve goes, you need to have the MC out of the car to change it since the PV is located underneath the MC.

You might just be low on brake fluid. Stay off hills until you figure it out.

Good luck.

90%,,,, the M/C is failing..

Sometimes the seals will grab again and it will work. but no matter, shell out the $20 to $50 for a new one and replace it so that NEXT TIME it does not fail BEFORE you are stopped at a light...

A dual M/C is always a good idea IMO, not a lot of work to make this upgrade, but a few $ and a little knowledge will be needed...

Just my .02, but I would let a mechanic do the MC swap. No offense intended, but the fact that you admitted you knew nothing about brakes indicates that I would worry if you did it yourself. I just have an image of an approaching intersection and pedal to the floor.

Now with that being said, find an honest mechanic and now you are armed with the knowledge of the potential problems. That would make it a bit harder to be ripped off. Brakes are the one thing that I still worry about doing myself and double check. I am sorry I just get worried.
