Mercury Cougar Question
Well, since they are related, i'd figure it would be okay to post a question here.
I'm looking into buying a classic Cougar, and I have seen to different engines which claim to be the same thing? Can someone please find me pics of 1969 and 1970 Windsor 351 Engines? thank you |

There's a few of those floating around here but dang if I can remember who all has them... and can't remember if they have the 351W or not.
Those ARE awesome cars though... I've found a blacked out 69 sitting at a house nearby and it hasn't moved in over 3 years. Has damage on the front fenders. I very much want to stop and shoot the guy a number and bring it home. I happen to have a built up 351C that needs a home and a Cougar would just be awesome. |
Thanks for the response.
Yea, I love Cougars. They are beautiful cars, I really hope I end up with one! |
That one is a Windsor i think.Easy way to tell the upper radiator hose a windsor goes in the intake cleveland and big blocks it goes in the block.

Thanks a lot!
I thought someone was trying to scam me with the wrong engine but i guess not :P Is it a 351? |
Well you had a choice of 289 or 390 in 67. Choices of 289, 302, 390,427,428 in 68. 302, BOSS302, 351W, and the FE engines in 69. 70 had 302, BOSS 302, 351C, and the FE engines. No convertibles until 69, and all Cougars until the Fox platform had V8s.
I have a 67 A code 289 auto, red with a black interior, used to have a black top. Now it has a 351C and I just finished the paint work this summer. Finding one in your area without rust will be lots of fun. I want a 70 but right now I have other projects to do, so maybe once the others are done and I sell something I'll get a 70. The link in my sig takes you to the build pics. |
Thank you!
Do you have any idea what kind engine it is in the pic? |
Cant tell from the angle if its a 351 or a 302 in the pic you posted. The 351 is a taller and wider block than the 302.
Cleveland pics inside an out: http://s189.photobucket.com/albums/z...nes/Cleveland/ And the 2V with a 4 barrel intake in my 67. http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...r/IMG_0831.jpg |
