These guys are right you'll usually pay more for a great paint job because of the amount of prep work and time it takes to make sure all the sheetmetal is smooth and lined up properly.

Look for my thread on my 69 I think it might be 2nd or 3rd page. I was told it was a rust free car and it did look decent from 10 feet away. Since I have sanded the car down to bare metal I have to buy two new doors (complete doors not skins) about $400.00. I will have to buy a new tail panel and extensions (?) for the back and a quarter panel for the passenger side which is another $800.00 just for the sheetmetal that does not include the labor to put it on or to smooth out the small dents that are on the car from 40 plus years.

No ones trying to give you a Jupiter size "ball park figure" to paint your car it's just without pictures it's hard for them to tell. No one can really tell with just a few sentences it's really like pulling the arm of a slot machine. Sometimes you're a winner most of the time you get nothing.

Its kinda like asking "How much rust does this car have?" Can you tell from the pic? Its very hard to know whats under there until you rip it apart. We can get an idea of it from a pic, but I can make a car look damn good in a photo when it has a paint job that came out of an aerosol can that rattles.

Trust me that thing had lots of rust in places you wouldnt even know there was car. So far I have about $5k into sheetmetal and supplies just to get it where it is in my sig. Well over 1000 hours labor and it is still a bare shell. My Cougar took me 450 hours to do a ground up rebuild, but it had far less rust on it. The 65 GTO I am doing has 1200 hours in it and it isnt as complete as the Mustang at this point, I had no idea it was as bad as it was or I would have found another car to start with.

Good luck, but figure at least $5k for a standard single stage paint job at a shop, the custom stuff you are talking about and perfection in body work can run you over $30k in labor. Just sayin man. Its a hobby, you arent supposed to make money doing it.

That guy needs to buy a S197...
He'd be right at home with the morons we have to deal with in that section, lol.

Anyway OP, $1000 should do the trick to paint your car, rust and all.
I swear.

I'd say take it to macco and get it done for the special. If you find the fender flares on ebay they can hook you up and paint it too. Dont listen to the other asses here, they will steer you wrong. Go to Macco! They do great work, and wont charge half as much as a "good shop" would.

lol

We have gave him the answer over and over but keeps making a new post.Painting a car is not cheap or easy to do If you want it to look good pay the price or end up doing it twice. And if it wasn't for us rednecks you would be naked hungry homeless and car less.
