Thanks everyone for the high praise!
Don't forget that in those first few pics the car is after it was freshly washed and very wet
There are, unfortunately though... some spots that need repair (won't happen, keeping 'original' status best we can) that the pics don't show. There's a good amount of door dings on both sides, the driver's side door has a helluva bunch of spots where the paint failed and light surface rust won. Luckily I've sanded and buffed and it all looks very tame, especially at any angle besides directly on.
I worked a little on the interior -- only used some Turtle Wax Ice Interior and a microfiber rag... not nearly as good results as the Meguiar's interior cleaner - but still quite dramatic. Lots of surface dust and crap came out. The material absorbed the cleaner like a sponge... I've never seen it like this before.... everything looked so much better..
So we're looking for a 4 speed tranny (he really wants a custom 6 speed). Won't have enough to get it until after the holiday season. What do ya'll suggest? Going prices? Long-term Offers?
Thanks again, I'll be posting more pics as I do more buffing.
And it will be of the hood... which makes me sad. The flat black stripe will have to be buffed out... the 25 years of clear-ish/white-ish plastic covering stained the black - 4-5 hours of 100% denatured alcohol, 50-50 then 100% APC mixed with elbow grease then power buffer... nothing worked... gotta sand it and buff it unless others have suggestions.

wow nice story, the car looks great for being original.... good thing it was in a garage all this time! Since that 302 has been sitting for so long I would just take the money you would spend getting that running and put it into rebuilding the 428. Unless of course the 302 will be easy to get back running.
I would also hold onto the extra 428 block for now. They are getting harder and harder to come by after so many people have tracked them and blown em up. You never know if you will need an extra or not. However if the rebuild will be relatively stock and well kept you can always sell it to someone that needs it for a decent amount, I think they sell for $600 and up for just the block, depending on condition.
Keeps us all updated as you bring her back to life!

Keep the thing original! Rebuild the 428, find the right date code toploader and make it the way your Dad drove i back in day. Big block Mach 1's are very rare. Mustangs with a bunch of different year parts and modern drive train are a dime a dozen.
