Default My Scott Drake chrome sucks!!!!

I had read many a post "after" I had purchased a number of Scott Drake items and now I know why people say they suck.
I have year old chrome that looks 30 years old. Backup light bezels all pitted and crazing. Mirrors, that weren't cheap... crazed.
So I read their satisfaction guarantee and I am to call them for a RA number to return the part with proof of purchase and wait how long???

Too bad, Scott Drake was at one time poised to be known as the place to get "quality" parts for Mustangs.

Over the pas 30 years or so, I have bought tens of thousands of dollars worth of part for old Fords from his brother Bob Drake. My experience with his parts is that "quality matters", even though a lot of the parts are made offshore.

What are you going to do though? Too many people buy parts on "price only", this road leads to crap parts. Simple supply and demand...

It would have been nice to be able to be able to trust a name for quality though.

Maybe these companies should list parts honestly, and give the customer options..

Part A - Crap
Part B - Ok for a trailer queen... (keep it out of the sun though)
Part C - A good fitting and quality part

i know some Drake parts are listed as show chrome or Driver chrome i think the show chrome would be extra shiny but probably not hard wearing

So I've heard a lot of people having trouble with chrome replacement parts. Would it be worth it, in the long run, to just re-chrome anything that is in good shape instead of buying new junk? I ask as I don't know what it costs to get something chromed.

Unfortunately there are not a lot of chrome shops still open in America, the ones who have managed to stay in have had to raise pricing to cover the cost of environmental compliance.

This coupled with the elimination of chrome from OEM vehicles from the 80s up, has for sure limited our options.

This has brought up to the point where it is cheaper to by 3 cheap ***, ill fitting offshore parts than for what it might cost to re-chrome one original part.

IMO in the long run paying the $ for new chrome on OEM parts is the better option.

I had some chrome work done in El Paso TX that I think was nice quality and didn't bust the bank, I think they do the actual chrome in Juarez...

Honestly, I'd pay double to rechrome rather than by new chrome if the rechrome was going to last twice, or more, as long. I'll keep this in mind when I get to that point.

I just paid $104 for a rear bumper from NPD that appears to look good and fit good. I checked into getting my old rear bumper rechromed and it was $300.

Remember this thread a year from now and let us know how it looks then.

I'm curious to see if yours holds up any better.
