Default 86 5.0 ho carbed in a 1966 stang

have the block and everything except wiring so going to make carburated easy right? ehh issues i read on a few forums you need an 85 dist (got it) and the plug for the ignition control module needs the wiring harness to hook together? so is there any way to bypass this or can it work without breaking the bank

Are you rebuilding it first? If you are put new pistons in it, as 86 had flat topped pistons and they really limit your head choices.
If you are just plopping the engine in your 66 with a carb on top you can use a Pertronix distributor.
Also I don't think your radiator won't match your water pump.
Do you have a manual tranny? If you are using the existing linkage you need to get the z-bar adapter as the late model blocks don't have it.
I just put an 86 in my 66, but I rebuilt it with a new timing cover, pump, 66 accessory brackets, etc...

The short answer is that about ANY 302 can make a cost effective transition into an early Mustang...
