Full respray or something less
Hi all, new to the forum and looking for some advice. I recently purchased a 1965 coupe and have a question about what to do with the paint. It currently has the original Caspian blue paint, with some issues. There are a few surface spots, and some small bubbling in places. I am also going to be replacing the front drivers side fender due to rust. My question is, being most of the remaining paint is in good order, am I best to try to have it spot resprayed, or lose all of the original paint, and have the whole body done?

Depends if your gonna sell it soon or keep it for years? If your selling it soon let them blend it if your keeping it its better to respray the whole car.Reason i say that is when they blend it will match now but later on the two paints will fade differently. If you ever seen a car in a parking lot looked like its two different shades or a truck topper that don't quite match the truck same thing.

Thanks for the input guys, I appreciate it. A little more background, I do intend to keep the car, at least for the next seven or eight years. I don't really plan to make it into a show winner. Doing that isn't in the budget for time or money. I would much rather spend my time driving it, instead of working on minor details. I do want it to look respectable though so I'll have to figure out what option is best. Any ideas how hard it is for a shop to match modern paint up to the old lacquer?

I'm not sure if they can even paint over the lacquer or not,When they blend the paint they do it to the next panel which would be over lacquer. If you can do the body work and know what your doing it can save you some money there. But some painters don't like painting over someone else body work so talk to a few before you do anything and get some quotes.

I agree with painting the whole car. If you're going to keep it, you'll be happier with the result on down the line. I had a really good paint job done in 1998 on mine. I had it touched up once by repainting the doors and front valance that had received some rock hits. I was never totally happy with the result. I could see that the paint wasn't exactly the same. No one else seemed to notice though. I won numerous awards at shows, so it probably just depends on how picky you are.
I agree about doing body work yourself. Talk to your painter. Some won't warranty paint work done over someone else's body work so check it out.
