Engine Knock

I have a recently restored 69 with a stock 302 and gt40 heads from a late model explorer. The engine was rebuilt at a local engine shop and I havent had problems with it until recently pulled the head to chase down another problem. When I put everything back together, I noticed a ticking noise from the #1 cylinder.

My buddy said exhaust leak but a mechanic who was charging the A/C said it was something in the engine or valve train. I took all the pushrods out and measured for flatness and one was 45 thousands out in the middle so I replaced it.

That did not correct the situation.

I know it is impossible to diagnose over the internet with a video but any suggestions of what to look for next? The car actually runs fine, idles fine once its warmed up, and accelerates fine.

Sounds like a slightly sticky lifter.
