Stereo options for a '65
I'm looking to upgrade the stereo on my '65 convertible. I'd like to keep the look as original as possible while being able to take advantage of newer technology like mp3 players. I've done some research on some of the newer head units like the one from Custom AutoSound but here is the thing: My parents installed a DIN size stereo into the dash, cutting the dash Honestly, just thinking about that makes me want to vomit. So here are my questions for you guys:
1. What would the car have looked like originally?
2. Is there a way to fix the damage that has been done?
3. Assuming i can get good options out of the above questions, which of the various classic style radios do you guys recommend?
Thanks!

There are not many high quality option for a radio to fit in the stock location. I think only one or two. You can repair the area that was cut.

To repair, cut out a patch panel and weld back in. For a newer radio, if you do not want the custom auto sound units (I had one and imho it sucked). You can go down to your local auto parts store and get a universal install and mount it under your dash by the ash tray. That's what I and others have done,

In the mean time I'l working on custom fabbing some kick panels. The kick panel kits they sell at CJPP are way too shallow for the speakers I want and CarToys wants $600 to fab some. I've never worked with fiberglass like this before so this should be exciting.
