My engine rebuild started at "yeah, probably $1500 - $2000". I think we just passed $4k and I still have to buy a new rad+fan, new gas tank, new exhaust, new... The wife finally said "just don't tell me how much so that way I can't get angry".

Don't ask don't tell. Probably a good policy. Still less expensive than a new Mustang.

Hehehehe. Truth has been spoken here. The "10%" overage is what you tell your wife it will cost.

Thanks for the advice guys. Here's what I have decided to do....1. Ordered and got a aluminum 4bbl intake from JEGS (Edlebrock) Dual plain. Ordering an Edlebrock 600 CFM 4BBL carb with vac secondary. After it's installed, gonna have it vacuum tuned at the local speed shop. Not gonna mess with cam or vavles just yet as they are all new with less than 100 miles on them. If I don't get the results I am looking for outta my 2.83:1 gears, I'll change them too. This was originally a I6 car so..... As far as the wife and money goes, I have that covered too. I make SURE I am home when my parts come in and hide the invoice. When she asks what a part costs (heaven forgive me) I LIE like a cheap toupee'.

If this was originally an I6 car...have you upgraded the suspension, brakes, and rear end? If not, those need to be top priority.

It's not the gears alone that need to be changed. The entire car needs to be converted to the V8 5-lug setup, which means new spindles, hubs, steering, and axle assembly (including the housing).
