Default carburator leak help

so i just got my 67 mustang coupe and it needs a little work. one of the biggest problems of it not being able to run yet is a fuel leak in the carburator. a mechanic i talked to that has seen the car and found the leak said i will need some kind of kit and it will cost around $30. can anybody help me out with this. what i realy need to know is what to buy and how to fix the leak. thanx in advance.

If you are adventurous, and want to learn.....then take your carburetor to a parts place and get an overhaul kit for it. Read the directions carefully and overhaul your present carb. If not, then take your carburetor to a parts place and trade it in for one that has already been professionally overhauled. Most leaks are caused by either an improper float setting, or leaky gaskets. Either way, it needs an overhaul.

those kits you buy for the carbs. are relatively easy to install and come with pretty good illustrations to guide you through the process.

I figured you didn't know after reading your post. That is why I suggested you take your carburetor to a parts store. They will examine it, get the brand and numbers off it, and sell you the kit designed for your particular carburetor.

Sure. If it is an original carb, it will most likely be an Autolite/Motorcraft 2100 if it is a 2 barrel, or a 4100/4300 if it is a 4 barrel. Those kits are available by just about any parts store.

The kit we are talking about come with all the necessary parts to rebuild your carb. include floats, gaskets, and everything else you will need. you can do it in an evening and just take your time and by some carb. cleaner and you'll be set. its much cheaper than buyin a rebuilt carb. and if you run into any problems just post it on here and im sure you will get all the help you will need.

Talking about carb cleaner.....get a bucket of Berryman's B-12 to soak the parts in overnight. They next day they will be clean as a whistle.
