Default i got a question?

well i took my heads off and i found there 289 heads and im pretty sure the block is from a 302 someone told me 289 heads have higher compression is this set up common or is there a problem

The 289 heads would likely have smaller 53cc chambers. This would result in higher compression, however you cant put bigger valves in those smaller chambers without running a notched piston (or so ive heard). This is why most guys will grab a set of 351W heads because the early ones had the same size chambers as the early 302's but with bigger valves, that way you can keep your compression up and have the bigger valves for better flow.

If they are the early castings, 69/70 they will have the either a 58cc or 60cc chamber. Therefore you would be around 9:1 with the same vintage 302.
