Default Steering column

I am assembling the steering column on a '66 coupe. When I slide the column (mast jacket) down over the steering shaft, I noticed that there is clearance between the inside diameter of the upper bearing and the shaft. The area I'm referring to is just below the spline that the steering wheel mounts on. Am I missing a piece? It would seem that this bearing should center the top of the column on the shaft. Thanks for any help.

Default RE: Steering column

Been awhile since I've have had a 66 apart but as I remember there is a tappered bushing with a split in it that should go in there.
