I believe all around drum brakes. All were replaced last year and have less than 500 miles on them, if that matters.

You should look into getting a set of disc brakes installed then, if you have the money. Ill be doing that later on when I can afford it.

And as they said before, drum brakes it doesnt hurt too much for e-brake to be on. My mom drove my car for a lil bit with it on and nothing seemed to happen...besides it stopped alot easier than it should have.

I take it from this that many of you don't actaully use the emargency/park brake when parking your cars? What stops them rolling away? In an Auto, there is a peg that locks into the flexplate when "park" is selected, however these pegs are designed to shear off if "park" if accidently selected while the car is moving. In many older cars, this has already happened, and as such, the park funtion does not work. (to hold the car)

In a manual, I guess you must put in gear? With these old boxes, they have been known to pop out of gear quite easily.
You should always use the emergency/park brake when parking your car.

Why? Seriously, I'm not being facetious and I can afford them. But for the little bit I'll be using it each season (remember, in New England the time you can drive a classic is very limited due to road salt), is there a good reason to do it, other than disc brakes are better than drums?

yeah, manuals it's a good idea to put it into a gear along with applying the e-brake. this is in case the brakes fail the car will catch a gear and keep it from moving.

The only reason would be that discs will stop a little better. I've got 4 wheel manual drums on my daily driver and have never had any problems. I just recently put front discs on my mustang because I worry about people pulling out in front of my freshly restored car.

Its also a good idea to set the ebrake in an auto too because thing about it, you just have a little pin holding your whole car back. Its not good to trust that pin. I always set and release the ebrake in my car and truck both because I always have. It gets to be a habit and you just do it without even knowing it.

yeah, that's the problem with me. my habit, (which is still somewhat existant) is to pull the e-brake handel, but in my buick, i have a foot brake, so i'm not used to it. never had a car before with a foot e-brake.
