Napa called me stupid.

So, I bought a water pump from Napa yesterday and I took my car to the shop to have them install it. Well, the shop called me and told me it was the wrong pump, the outlet is on the wrong side. 'AHA!' I thought to myself, it must be for a later model 302! I called up NAPA and told them they gave me the wrong one and the lady told me my block was wrong! I infact don't have a 302, but she doesn't know what I have. There's only 6 screws on the valve covers so that's a 302 or a 351C right? The intake manifold reads 302 not 289/302/351 so that leads me to believe I have a 302. Well, that and the guy I bought it from told me it was a 302... So, I'm starting to second guess myself as to what I really have. It IS considerably bigger than my 94 302 but I figured it was just the differant years they made the blocks and materials used to make it. So how do I really tell what I have just by looking at the engine from the outside, or can I tell the differance?

must be a windsor then. I read the other day on here that someone said 302s and one of the 351s have 6. *shrug*

It can't be a freaking winsor with a 302 intake!

The 289 and the 302 had the water pump snout on different sides. Just get the water pump with the correct snout to match your radiator. Both pumps will fit on either block.

No kidding, it was sarcasm.

That seems to be the problem now doesn't it? =) Napa insists it's the right one. Oh well at least the auto shop is smart enough to sell me the right one... $10.00 cheaper too ddly enough.

I think he was refering to the 351W, as least that what I was joking about. Good news though, the shop found a pump that worked(imagine that) and charged me like $25 for it. Compared to the 60 for the other, I'm happy.

I was estimating dork! =P

Anyway, I got it back and the temp gauge is reading 250 degrees and steady oposed to pegged(above 300 since the last numbr is 280). This still seems high to me though, does anyone else think there could be something wrong or is it just a wrongly wired thermometer?
