Point's to electronic

Just a few questions, I want to change my points to electronic and make it look no different, which I am lead to believe is easy the only thing that worries me is the need to check/change the timing, I have always had EFI cars so never had to do this before so am really looking for the idiots guide to doing this.

Cheers

I have a '65 Mustang and a '71 Bronco that both had points, and we didn't have to touch the timing on either of them. All you have to do is remove a couple of screws, remove the points, and install the Pertronix system. No adjusting of the timing or anything.

as long as your timing is set when you go to do it and you don't spin the dizzy at all when you change over, you should be fine. the points are inside the top of the dizzy, as you probably already know. all you have to do it remove them and connect the electronic ignition.

Cheers folks i thought this should be the case if the distrubitor was not rotated, i shall mark it to be sure but read some instructions and they said check the timing after, i suppose it's means u can't sue if it goes bang!!

I ahve used the Pertronix and the Accel kits. Both work great. the pertrnix is a little more simple to install and the wiring looks nicer.

I have Pertronix I on my 66 for the last 1 1/2 years with no problems very simple to install, I also carry a spare one, in case of fairlure I can change it and be on the road in few minutes.

Your timing will remain the same with points or the Pertronix. There are basically two ways to add the pertronix. One is to hook it up just like the instructions say, which will take you no longer to hook it up than to change the points and condenser. The other way is to grab a constant 12V from the starter switch. Both methods are described in the FAQ section.

Are there any real advantages to installing the petronix (sp?) EI system that actually replaces the distributor itself or does the system that just replaces the points perform as well? There is a significant cost difference

I've always heard that the difference for the system that replaces the coils is just to keep a stock look for the concours guys[&:] I could be wrong though.
