She won't start. Advice needed ASAP.

I've been outside all evening trying to get my stang to start but it just wont. Im getting fuel to the carb cuz i can see it squirting, and im getting some fire as well, and it wants to start so bad. ITs probably as close to starting as it could be without actually running. My next step is to slap on plugs and wires? please i need some quick help here. thanks.

is it even sputtering? the spark plugs are on and getting a spark? my friends 74 vette had a blown fuse that we fixed today and that fixed it up right then.

Hold the spark plug against a ground and have someone turn the engine over for you. If it is sparking then you are good there. Next, are the plugs wet with gas when you crank it for a little while? If not then you aren't getting gas. Try pouring a little gas in the carb then and see if it will hit. If not, it could be compression. Let us know.

ok, i checked for spark and its definitely there, lol, trust me its there, ouch. But i pulled all the plugs and 5 or 6 of the 8 were wet with the gas. i got the car to run one time but it did run pretty rough and when i let it idle it would want to shut off. and occas. when i gave it gas it would backfire thru the carb. which leads me to think it could be a timing issue? to set the initial timing i take the distributor out, put my finger in no. 1 plug hole and wait till i feel the air push out. when i feel the air push out, do i drop the dizzy right back in or keep turnin the motor till the last blow? i hope this makes sense.

When the number one plug is at top dead center, you are going to drop the dizzy so that the rotor button is pointing toward the number one plug wire on the cap.

check starter fuse. maybe, its possible, im just saying, might be the culprit.

edit: i didnt see that you said you had spark, so nvm couldnt be the fuse.

It could be 180 degrees out

i am interested in this too i was heading up I-17 it was good to about 6000 feet then it began to hesitate then it seemed ok then it would run fine for a few min then hesitate and then backfire through carb and die then it left me hangin i was pissed so i tried to tinker with it but to no avail no luck so i decided to have it towed to a shop so i didn't damage the engine
