What would it take (besides Mustang II front end and custom motor mounts) to put a 7.3 powerstroke in a 69 Mach 1?

I dont care what you think about me doing it, i just wanna know what i need to do

Isn't that a diesel? Lets see what it takes........ major drugs for even considering it. You might not want to hear opinions, but your about to hear alot of them. That engine is bigger then the car itself probably. Not even talking about the transmission you'll need. If you wany power, drop a tricked out 351W.... no modifications.

Mustang II isnt heavy enough to do that.. A 7.3 Diesel is almost as heavy as a 69 is. There is a reason the trucks they come in scale around 7000lbs.. because the engine is nearly 2000lbs of that. Then the trans to hold up to the torque produced is heavy as well..

Get an F250, cut down the frame and install it under the Mustang while chopping out the floors, wheelwells and lopin off the entire front end. Then make supports to hold the front sheetmetal on since the engine will be wider than the current spalsh aprons are apart.

But hey... good luck with it.. I thought the same thing with a Duramax in an A body.. but it would be a pig. And a beefed A body could handle it, a mustang cant.. So its off to the custom chassis shop for you..

I want what ever fordboy is smoking cause he's out of his mind. Are you kidding me ? If you want stump pulling power just go with a 460, would be alot less work.

A full frame from a 3/4 ton pickup. That'll work.

i was going to say a 460, but that also requires alot of work. One day, i might drop a cobra jet into my mustang. Ill have to put a mustang II suspension under it.

crazy idea! it wouldnt be worth it...what is your motivation for this? just to say you have a powerstroke in a mustang? im not trying to cut you down...im just curious

I've seen a 460 in a 1970 BMW 2002 (normally a 2.0L 2,100 pound car), however insane it may be I'm sure with enough time and money you could stuff a powerstoke into your car.

I would not use a mustang II front end, you are asking for failure. I would butcher the front end out af a half or 3/4 (would need to see if you could swap hubs)ton 2wd 3rd generation dodge (2003+) pickup, they are true independent, use rack & pinion and I think you could narrow the track pretty easily by building a custom subframe with the A-arm mounting points further in, I also think it would be pretty easy to bag, so you wouldn't have to worry about custom springs. Beyond the front end, you would have to tie in your front subframe to the rear somehow, probably would be smart to cage the car. Other thing is that the turbo on the powerstroke is going to be in the way, plus you are going to want that engine as far back as you can get it, so you will probably have to cut out a large portion of the firewall and transmssion tunnel and fabricate a new setup. Hell you may even loose the ability to keep your dash.


All the problems aside, it would be cool to see a mustang spool up at the strip and leave a trail of soot.

I have always wanted a T-bucket with a Cummins B series, with a stack straight out of the turbo in front of the windshield.

Hum well at least he is original :)
You would have to remove all suspension and replace it with tube steel to stop the car from bottoming out, I dont think the make a trans or rearend large enough to handel the 1000 ftlbs of torque for very long.

Like Bentworker says its probably possible but every inch of that car is going to have to be beefed up by the time your done with it, its gonna weigh as much as a truck.
