It sounds like the carb is the problem. The float valve doesn't sound like it is shutting off the fuel to the bowls. It could be the float level adjustment is off or the float has a hole in it which would let it sink and then not able to shut the gas off. Ot the valve could be stuck open. If the carb has been sitting a long time >6 months, this can happen.

Correct info--Not pump but carb needle/seat/float

Most likely a composit float but then sometimes do break down and get heavy.

or a stuck needle/seat.. possibly some rust lodged in it if there is no filter.

DGA is AWESOME!!! Man you know your stuff. you need to be on here more.

Still say ditch the E carb.. but yeah I am biased.

If a mechanical fuel pump is on its discharge cycle when the engine shuts off, it can increase the pressure in the line to a level beyond the capability of a needle and seat to hold the fuel back, especially on the Edelbrock which can't take as much pressure as a Holley. A quality pressure regulator will offset that problem. With a mechanical pump, a deadhead style regulator will work fine. For optimum performance, install a return-style regulator.

I would try examining and cleaning the float bowls and valve seats first. Check for the fuel level. Install a fuel filter if you haven't got one already.
