BS.... I lived in the Dallas area for many years, and went through many ice storms during the 80's and 90's. If it was garaged kept, then you will be OK.

I agree it looks better without the vinyl roof. I thought it might be cheaper way to go by putting it back on. I think I will find out what the cost is to repair the roof and paint .I will just have them paint the roof black , then when I am ready for a complete paint job its ready.I am only one to do this once and I would rather not have a vinyl roof. Its is really a disappointment about my roof rust , the car came from California , the rest of the car is all original in great shape. It must have been lift outside the last few year before I got it .

When you take those things off it, they usually are a real mess, it's just natural, the cover over the metal roof, there will be problems over 40 years.
If you are one that likes to show their Mustang as a stock vehicle, get if fixed and replace the vinyl top - that's the way it's supposed to be, but if that doesn't bother you - do what you want - enjoy your car.

One question: Was there any tension left at your roof? One my frend had same kind of rust roof under the vinyl and roof was very soft or loose when it was pressed. They made new extra roof supports inside of the roof and they gave it some heat to the roof to get some tension.

I had the exact same problem with my 69' coupe. At first we thought that we were going to have to replace the entire roof however, there is a better solution. The shop my car was at had what is called a RUSTBUSTER. It is a wire fed welder, It is almost like painting your car with new metal. I am extremely please with the results, and it was a hell of a lot easier than trying to find a replacement roof.

hey, dont feel bad, my 66 had a vinyl top and it was a helluva lot wors that that. I ended up taking two cars and putting them together to make one, so i had half of my original car. Now ive taken everything from the firewall forward off cause it was bent and rusted, so not much of my original car is left
