Default 600 horses and stock brakes

Hey everybody I need some advice. Me and my dad have 69 mach 1. We built it pretty well: 351 windsor bored .030 over, Aussie 2 vavle cleveland heads, hi-rise intake(cant remember brand), 3.89 gears, built c-4, full length headers, holley 650 cfm carb, and most importantly some wide *** drag radials. The motors putting down 600hp @ 6000rpms on pump gas. Sweet machine considering the car cost 12 grand and so did the motor. There some problems though. STOCK BRAKES!!! its damn scary. oh and we blow a power steering pump every season. My dad wants big brakes and I want a manual steering rack. I was wondering what would be the best setup? I've seen those fancy Mustang-II type front suspension kits with coilovers and SN-95 spindles and all that oh and what's the scoop on flaming river racks? any good? I don't have much experience with the classics (hence the login name) so I was wondering if you all had any wisdom. Thanks!

http://www.discbrakeswap.com/

Disc brakes for less than $500 (until the end of the month) and manual steering.
No need for a rack and pinion on a drag car IMO. Keep it manual with a roller idler arm and be done with it.

well i dont know if i would put granada brakes on this....If i was building this and putting this much money in it.. i would put discs on the back too. you could check out this website http://www.stainlesssteelbrakes.com/ and then find the part number to which setup that you want....then do the search for it on google.... you can find it cheaper on summit racing too....

its more expensive then discbrakeswap.com like by 500 to 700 ..... but with all that power and i would def. want to stop on a dime. I say Power Disc Brakes on all four corners.

now if you wanted bigger then the 11' rotors in the SSB and the Granada's .....on http://www.mustangsteve.com site there is a link that he shows you what you need to convert your front and rear brakes to 13" Cobra off of a 94-2004 mustang corbras....He sells some parts on his site that you can use and the rest you have to get.....heres the direct link to the cobra part http://www.mustangsteve.com/cobrabrakes.html

My friend has a 66 with rack and pinon and he says its hard to steer at low speeds (less then 10 mph). But i have seen one kit out there that had the whole setup of the susp. & steering as one kit...i cant find it now.

You can always find **** that is cool and you dont need....but the one time it can be useful....it doesn't exist [:@]

Well if its a 69 mach 1 it should have disk brakes on the front already....

So in that case I'd just say get rid of the drums on the back and put in some disks, and upgrade/service the front brakes with whatever necessary. I'm just a kid so I won't be able to narrow it down to a detail for you, but those are some suggestions.

I would presume that the weight of the car means more when stopping then the hp... you shouldnt be on the gas when braking anyway.

It's not the horsepower of that engine that requires disc brakes, it's the weight distribution, and the speeds that he will most likely be going.

A 600HP 351W? Let's see the dyno sheet. A 351 c.u. naturally-aspirated, non-stroked, and on pump gas cannot make 600 HP.
You need way more cubes and higher compression.

Kinda thinkin the same thing, but if you are getting 9's out of it NA, then okay no problem.

On the end of the brakes. Since its pretty much a drag car from what you say, why not just willwoods? they are light and less unsprung weight means quicker ETs, You can get a kit for front and rear, save some weight and be able to stop it from the 130mph it should be running.

btw, I have a 650hp 467ci toy... its NA and on the ragged edge at that power level NA on pump gas, thats why my thinking tends to lean toward the yeah right, but I give you the benefit of the doubt.
