ya the trick shift stuff is really nice however it sucks when u still have a stock c4 which requires 8 quarts (i think just off the top of my head) and at about $4 a quart it gets a bit pricy
If you don't also drain and replace the oil in the converter, the stock C4 uses 5 1/2 quarts.

You need to purchase about 12-15 quarts of fluid. Disconnect the cooler line from the radiator at the transmission and attach a hose with a clamp to the end of that line so that the line runs into a bucket or jug. Start the engine and put the tranny in gear. Have someone watch the bucket or jug you have the old fluid going into, and when it reaches about 4 quarts, stop the engine. Put in 4 quarts of new fluid in the filler tube of the tranny. Repeat this procedure. Do this three times, and you should start seeing fresh fluid being drained out of the tube. Now, you have successfully changed not only the fluid in the tranny, but the converter as well. Top off the level as needed.

I have read in the past where guys have drilled a hole in the bottom of the converter, and tapped in a threaded bolt where they could drain the converter without this procedure, but the converter takes 5 quarts to fill it, so that is not saving you more than a quart or two of fluid.

Some converters have a drain from the factory. Remove the inspection plate and rotate the engine to see if you have a plug.

Soaring's method works very well for routine changes. If the fluid hasn't been changed in a while, consider looking for that drain plug in the converter.

If you go to almost any transmission or repair shop they can flush your trans for any where to $90-$150 dollars and you dont have to worry about screwing up your trans lines or transmission. And the flush machines they use now work better and clean the junk out of the trans better than doing it the way some people would do it.
