I'm 99 percent positive that a wrangler has a low range transfer case. I've never heard of one that didn't. I've driven a liberty quite a bit and I know that even it has a low range. So basically the hill descent control is just a luxury item and not really a necessity, because that can be done with all 4 wheels locked in and low range, right?

Ideal, the hill decent means that you don't lock up the wheels going down hill which give you alot lot lot more control, which the wranger can't do. Difflocks are for up hill and getting out of mud but that the decent control is well impressive, i used to go 4x4 trailing with a mate and lightweight 90 and boy would that hill decent be nice, going down a hill with the wheel locking ain't fun. The low ratio box is not the same, the hill decent is like ABS compared to normal brakes, it senses the the individual grip on each wheel and adujust the brake accordingly so u go down controled man i type slow spanish beat me!!!

My friends wrangler doesnt and neither did the wranglers in the local jeep dealership, is it hidden somehow?

I guess you wont be convinced till you see the two of them up against each other.
