IMO the export brace is a great upgrade to that two piece bracing they used. The Monte Carlo bar is a nice add on but not needed. (specaily if you're trying to look as original as possible) If not, then might as well throw that in also. It can only help.

Both make nice structural improvements.
I wouldn't drive my car aggressively without either one in place.

I have just the MC at present, need to fit the export brace, and it make a noticable difference in how it handles

I put the MC bar on mine, and will eventually get the Export brace. Beefed up suspension and disc brakes are also in the plans. I noticed some improvement in the stiffness of the front end after I put the MC bar on, but I think they are both needed.

I know that the pair really made the Shelbys handle great in corners. The export brace was a hefty item on them, the Monte Carlo bar was fairly straight forward. I had a modified Monte Carlo bar on mine to clear the air filter on the 2 Holleys.

The Montecarlo bar makes a big difference in the 71-73. It tightens up the front end to keep it from wondering around.
