Default Follow up to oil pan removal....

I am at work so I can't tell but is the oil pump in a 68 302 under the oil pan? If so I think I will buy a new one on lunch to put in while I have the pan off. Thanks.

Yep. You may as well replace it while the pan is off. That's what I did even though the old one still worked. I had no history record of how long the old one had been in there (probably from the factory) so I replaced it. They are relatively inexpensive, and the peace of mind is worth it.

Thanks Soaring. I will do that. Should I get a high volume pump for a few dollars more or shouldn't it make a difference for cruising?

Stock engine, get a stock pump (you probably already have it, but I'll vote anyway). You may wan to think about an aftermarket oil pump shaft as well. The stockers aren't as strong...I've twisted more than one.

I would definitely get a high volume oil pump. Especially if you live in warmer climates where the pressure drops when the engine is at its hottest.
