Default 65 coupe

First let me say hey to everyone and say that I look forward to being a part of the forum. I am new to the Mustang world but may be getting into with a 65. I have an opportunity to purchase a 65 that is "numbers matching". I have looked around the internet and can not find where to find the numbers on the car. I can find plenty of information on decoding the numbers themselves just not where to find. I hope this is not considered vulgar language but I am in the process of restoring a 68 camaro and had no problem finding the numbers on the block, tranny, rear end and body itself. Can someone tell me where to find on a Mustang? By the way my wife and I just purchased an 06 mustang (not GT) with pony package so I guess I am in the Mustang world for sure. If the information concerning the locations of the numbers is in this forum please let me know I did a search with decode and could not find anything pertinent.
thanks,
scott

Default RE: 65 coupe

65 Mustangs can never be 'numbers matching' in the Chevy sense of the word.

The vin is on the driver side inner apron and visible. It is duplicated on the passenger side under the fender (you have to remove fender to find it). You can check it against the door tag and that is about it.

The only thing the motor will have is cast in date stamps from when they were made look up behind where the starter sits, they do not have a vin stamped on them.
