Manual Trans swap for '69 mustang w/ C4
I am looking to swap out a C4 to put in either a 4 or 5 speed manual.
Is there an advantage to have a 4/5 speed over C4 in terms of 1/4 mile speed?
Any suggestions appreciated.

I don't drag so I don't know. A C4 can shift faster. With a C4 you have 3 gears and with a HD T-5 you have 5 gears. You can put a 3.89 rearend gear in a still have a overdrive. A T-5 makes it much more streetable. If you want a drag car then you can make an auto faster in the 1/4. You need to talk to roundman about dragging.

H Dean-
Here is the lowdown between manual trannys and automatics IMHO. a four or five speed will be overall quicker, but will depend on how well you can shift. an automatic will be more consistent, and with a shift kit will still shift pretty hard, but i dont think as hard as you can a manual if you shift right (personal experience.) as for pure driving enjoyment, i will ONLY drive a manual - they are just too much fun. hope this helps

as far as the track goes, i can see the consistency advantage of the auto, but i have no personal experience with this so that's all i got as far the track part goes...
i swore up and down that my 65 coupe would stay as original as i could possibly keep it and that included the C4..... until i drove it for more than 15 minutes. this is actually my first automatic car ever, and i hated it. after that i knew if i kept the C4, it would have been a waste of my time and money restoring this car because i would never drive it. hell, i probably wouldn't even look at it.
you gotta build your car for how you plan to use it, mines a cruiser, i want it to be fun to drive. therefore i need a 4 speed.
that being said, anyone have a 4 speed shifter setup and z bar setup they want to sell?? lol... those are all i need to make it work...
