electric choke
i was just looking at my carburetor and i was wondering, shouldnt there be a wire coming from the alternator to the choke? i looked and didnt see one. should it have one? does any body have any pictures of their carbs and or the wire coming from it if there is one it would be much help.

RE: electric choke
There should be a wire going to the choke, if its electric, but it shouldn't be comming from your alternator. That is alternating current and won't be sufficient to power the choke.
However, there should be a wire going to the choke from a 12V source. I have mine tied in to my windshield washer wire. Make sure it is tied into a wire that is only on when the ignition is in the "run" position.
I can't maybe get you pics of how I did mine later today, it is pretty clean, and the splicing occurs in the cowl where the wiper motor is, so it is not visible.

RE: electric choke
well actually my brother said i have a vaccum choke, i have the orignial carb autolite 2100 so does it have a vaccum choke? but the thing i found is a line coming from the rear of the carb on the passenger side is a line that goes down toward the exhaust headers. there is a hole where it looks like it should go but it is about an inch away like it broke off or something. the line is metal and is covered in some fuzzy stuff. what is this line and what does it do, should it be connected to the headers?

RE: electric choke
Run a wire from the blue/black wire on your ignition switch to the carb. That is one switchable source.
On Edit: we must have been typing at the same time. Yeah, you have a vacuum/heat system to open the 2100 chokle. Here are a couple of pics where it hooks up to the manifold, but if you have headers, then you will need to devise either an electric choke or a manual choke because your headers won't have a way to hook the line up.

RE: electric choke
so what i was saying was this line with the fuzzy stuff on it is basically disconnected from where ever it is supposed to go. from the pictures i couldnt exactly tell where it went. i am having trouble starting my car. i start it and then pump the gas to keep it going but it seems as though its not gettting gas. so i disconnect the fuel line from the carb and start it up and it is getting fuel to the carb. so then i figured it must be the carb. i thought i had an electric choke so i was wondering well where is the power coming from but thats when my brother told me i might have a vaccum choke so i looked at that line and saw it disconnected and wondered if this would be the problem that is making my car not able to start. any input please

RE: electric choke
OK, you don't have headers. You still have an exhaust manifold. You have two steel tubes coming off your manifold, both of which are wrapped in insulation of sorts. It's actually a fiberglass insulation. Now study these pictures and see how it hooks up to the manifold and the carburetor. Mine is also a 2100, so your's should hook up exactly. Notice that the tube running to thecarbwhich is vacuumturns into a rubber tube before it reaches thecarb. Theother hard tube remains a hard tube all the way to the choke mechanism, which is heat from themanifold.
