68 GT how to determine

I am loking at a 68 coupe.the car is entirely disassembled.I am told it came with the GT grill and front disc brakes. Is there a way to determine if it is a GT car by the vin. Thanks Dave

I don't believe so. The data tag on the door may give some clues.
I just realized you're in my neck of the woods.. Wow. It's a small world.

RE: 68 GT how to determine

the GT was an option package that could be ordered on a '68 as long as the car was ordered with any V8 motor. The VIN cannot determine a GT, it can only verify an 8 cylinder motor. My car still has a tag riveted to the front core support which has the vin, and some codes that the assembly workers needed to know as the car was being built. While some argue this means nothing, my tag most definitely has GT stamped on it among other codes. check the following links for more info.
