Curb Idle... Mine would do almost the same thing,, I would let it warm up and then put it in drive but had to keep an eye on how it was running or it would die,, So I adjusted the curb idle and problem was solved..

Do I need a tachometer to set my curb idle and idle mixture? If so, where can i get a hand held one and where do I hook it up? I have a Motorcraft 2100, does anyone know what screws I should be adjusting? Thanks.

The idle mixture screws on the 2100 are in front of the carb down low next to the intake, Screw them both in all the way, then out about 2 turns each. Now, tweak them from there. If you screw out and the rpm's pick up that's good. Once the rpm stops picking up, then stop screwing them out. My screws are about 2 1/2 turns out on my 2100.

My truck does the same. Except for in 2nd and reverse. In 2nd you can get it started driving and manually shift and it hits all the gears perfect. But if ya don’t shift back to 2nd gear after ya get slower than 2mph it’s like not engaging a clutch on a straight shift. And it’s not the IAC nor is it the shift Solenoid nor is it the TCC nor is it the Neutral safety switch.

have you considered getting rid of the truck for something that works proper without a pile of electronics and goofy electro-mechanical ****s like IAC and TCCs? ....maybe like a classic mustang? Thats my favorite thing about them. :/
