Need some direction from the Pro's

I am looking for some direction from the people here who have cars they are proud of.
As most know, 2 weeks ago I picked up a 67 coupe...all stock..no mods..with 148000 miles on it.
I drove this bad boy home from the ladies house grinning from ear to ear.
Since then I have been toiling with a direction to take this car.
I figue I can go one of two ways:
1. restore it completely bring everything back to showroom condition, remove everything, strip it and put it back together.
This gives me a show car that is worth alot of money...but not really a driver.
2. Upgrade the brakes, fix the body, slap a coat of paint on it, and drive it..enjoy it.
This gives me a car I can tool around with.
I am leaning toward making a driver out of it...I personally think it will bring me more enjoyment.

With that said...I have2 concerns.
As the car sits, I can only get about 5 gal of gas in it until the tank overflows....its like the back end of the car is so low, it wont hold any gas.....is this a common problem? Or is this one special feature that only I have.
2nd
As I understand it, when I swap my brakes to disks, I will need to go to 15" rims....
Is there a website I can look at where I can parooose the 15" wheel selection that will fit the 5 lug granada config?

Well a lot of money invested anyway, unless you have a rare or unique car, you will never get the money back that you put into it.IMO
Build the car the way you want it to be. If a DD make it safe as you can.

About the tank only holding 5 gallons of gas, sometimes when you go to fill up the air can't escape fast enough and the filler neck fills with gas, stopping the flow of gas.

I am 98% sure I want to make a driver out of it, but will probably keep everything I remove just in case some day in the future I can go back...if that day ever gets here.
I want to drive the car.
That means disk brakes, and maybe a Vintage air system.

I thought about air being trapped at the gas station...but 2 days later sitting in the sun gas was rinning past the cap onto the driveway. I turned the car around so the tank was on the high side of the driveway slope and it stopped.

There are a lot of questions to consider to find your answer:
[ul][*]How do you want to use the car?[*]What made you want this car?[*]What do you want out of the car?[*]What is your budget like?[*]What inspires you?[/ul]
Search Classic Mustangs in Google Images or look at the MF gallery. What do you find yourself staring at and what makes you want to go out into the garage?

Ya know flat tire, you are a pretty fart smeller, err....I mean a pretty smart feller. :DThe most important question is about the budget.

I agree with stanging. Unless you have something that is worth restoring back to original, build it the way you want. As far as being a driver- It is a car, thats what we build em for right?

agreed, do what you heart desires. Also, please dont think you have to go to disc brakes. Im probably one of the few on here that think drum brakes will suffice on these cars. With new shoes, cylinders, properly adjusted up, turned drums, and a good dual bowl MC, drum brakes will stop you. I am not at all trying to say that drum brakes are just as good as discs, just simply stating that unless you go and do abunch of motor mods, drums will do fine, just gotta get used to em first.

Wanna a place to start, mustang monthly mag has an excellent article on line regarding the top 10 items for street survival. Start at http://www.mustangmonthly.com/techar...ide/index.html
it addresses safety issues and mechanical short falls of the early mustangs, and brings them up to speed.

How do you want to use the car?
What made you want this car?
What do you want out of the car?
What is your budget like?
What inspires you?[/ul]
I want to be able to hop in the car and take it to the mountains, or to the beach. As my kids get older, they are gone more and more. I have a motorcycle, and the wife and I ride a lot, but on our last ride to the mountains we found that as we get older, the 4-7 hour bike rides are quite painful.
As for the reason… I love the classic lines of the mustang, and I have always wanted to take an old car and fix it up. I also have a 15 year old son who I want to get closer to, and I am hoping that this project will not only help me in my endeavor, but also teach him some skills that he can use later in his life.
My Budget is tight, but I see a lot of thinks that can be done without breaking the bank. I can pull the engine, and tear it down. Work in the engine compartment while the engine in the machine shop, swap the brakes etc. Replace the gat tank, stuff like that. I would say that I can probably afford to spend about $4000 a year on this car, and hope to have it back together running in a year.
As far as inspiration. I am a machinist, and have always liked to work with my hands, and nothing inspires me more than making or working on something and having people complement my work. I have been working in the machine tools world since I was 18, and I am 41 now. I like cars that look clean, and strong. I don’t want my car pimped, no 7” flat screens for me. I want the interior to look original, the body to look original, and to have the factory power plant that can go when it needs to. I don’t want a race car, I want a strong safe car that I don’t have to worry about.
