Default What advance for 351W ignition ?

What is the right advance on my 351W with stock camshaft and Pertronix ignition ? My Haynes manual says 6° for '69 and 10° for '70.[sm=chattypair.gif]

I tweak mine with my ear. It will be set at slightly different degrees depending on the elevation you are at and the octane of the gas you are using. Set it at about 8 and see if the engine knocks under load, if not then you are probably good to go. If it does, then move it back to 6.

Thank you Soaring, between 6° and 10° the engine runs good, with better RPM near 10°. What is good ?

I'm running at about 10 and my 289 runs like a scared jack rabbit. Try it there for awhile and see if the engine heats up or not.

if you can get away with 10 thats best - just listen for pinging under a load

I set my 1969 351w at 10 degrees BTDC and have had no problems. I do run 91 octane fuel all the time though, that makes all the difference in the world.
