buffing
 

I am looking to purchase a buffer so I can cut and buff the 68. I have never done this before and need to know what RPM range should I go with for a buffer.

the attachment for the da its a sanding pad that allows you to use some fine paper like 3000 grit its called the hookit 2 system with trizact polishes etc, but i like to use regular old sandpaper with a hand block for knocking out the orange peel. esp since this is not gonna be an every day deal for you. the da doesnt allow you to hear any grit caught under the paper. the finer the paper you use for the wetsanding the easier it will be to buff out. this is the buffer i use https://www.autobodytoolmart.com/p-11964-14689.aspx its a vairable spped buffer and i use 3m rubbing compound with a white foam pad and the finishing glaze with the black foam pad order one of these catalogs from the web addy its got lots of neat stuff in there

I recently did this. I bought a shop polisher from Internet Ad Ventures kafjoker@comcast.net for $39.95 + 7.00 frt. It works great. I also bought from the Autobodystore.com1 quart of Sure Finish Polish and a foam velcro pad for about $55.00 delivered. They both did a teriffic job on my car. I sanded the car with 600, 1000, 1200 and then 2000 grit paper. After that I used the polisher with the foam pad only to finish. If you are slinging polish you are using too much. Run the polisher at the lowest speed.

Good article on wet sanding attached . Alsosame site sells a bufferfor $80 by ATD - bought it on Monday and got it on Weds. Seems like a nice buffer. I spoke to guys at local auto store that deals with body shops for paints, polish etc. They said for the money - very good buffer. For Buffing I bought Mequiars solo kit off ebay - have not got it delivered yet but ran into Mequiars sales rep at same auto store and showed me the kit and looks pretty good.
