My Car Won't Start. Please Help.

I was going to pull my car out the garage today so that I would have space to put on the passenger side wheels and begin on my interior but that didn't happen. I can't figure out why my car won't start. I just changed the plugs and wires so do you think that's it? Personally, I think it is because my carb is adjusted incorrectly but I don't know how to adjust it right.

The car makes a slow whirring noise when I turn the key...it's a stock 289 2v.

Slow wirring noise? Is the engine turning over or is it just the starter that is wirring? First thjng to do is remove and clean your battery cables.

Battery Cables aren't in bad shape. I'm pretty sure it's the starter that's whirring but the weird thing is that I started it a few times previously, I just had to put gas in the carb. Now I'm putting gas in the carb and not a whole lot is happening.

Does the starter turn the engine?

Do you have a battery charger? If so, put it on the highest amperage it has for a couple of hours then try to start the car. Or if you have a charger with a 50 amp starter setting, put it on that and immediately try to start the car. If the starter won't engage, then get back with us.

He obviously doesnt know the trick to Fords. If For any reason a Ford wont start, clean the bettery terminals, the cable ends. If that doesnt get it, clean all the solenoid connections.

Well, obviously with any car if the cables are dirty and not making contact you will get a whirring sound as if the battery is low beyond cranking power. I think if was mine, I would pull the battery and ]put it on a charger while I took off all the ralated cables and wire brush them and the connection point as well. If it still won't start, then I'd pull the starter and take it to Autozone and have them check it. And, if the starter turns out to be good, I would pick up a starter relay (solenoid) and put that on. I betcha' by now I would have a mustang that starts. :D

You would definitely have a Mustang that starts - that's why I post here. I'm going to take your advice and charge the battery but I think it's a little weird to try this since it's a 2month old Duralast.

James, I define 'clicking' as a low battery making the solinoid go nuts, and a 'whirring' as the starter not engageing the flywheel or flexplatem, as in the gears.
