Gas Mileage for a 1966 289 V8?

I am close to buying a 1966 Ford Mustang, 289, V8 Engine. What type of gas mileage would I be getting while driving it? I currently drive an 2001 Ford Mustang, V6 and wondered if the 1966 would be worse or maybe equal to my current car. By the way, I'm not completely sure how many barrels the car has, but what type of horsepower am I looking at with a 1966-289 V8?

Thanks!

Without researching, or even even backing up my statement,,,,, the 66 will get worse mileage than your late model V-6......

But you should still buy the car.... ;) You will be happier.

I used to average about 16mpg in my 67 coupe with a 289 2V and C4. My drive was part city part open road during that time.

Oh yeah that was keeping my foot out of it too.

if gas mileage is a concern, stick with your v6.

btw, the 66 289 came with 3 options - C code 200hp, A code 225hp and K code 271hp. Which engine and whether or not the original engine is still in the car will have a bearing on its value. I'd suggest you do some more homework before buying that car.

Well, I've contacted the owner and there is no rust, only 104,000 original miles, new automatic transmission about 5,000 miles ago, new suspension, new front brakes, dual exhaust, interior is great and completely stock(no cuts/rips, radio still works), no power steering which I don't think will be that bad, because I've driven my father's truck which has no power steering and is a manual, just takes a while to get used to, and he only wants about $8,000 OBO.

He said that he was trying to get rid of it because he just bought a new house, and currently hasanew Jeep. He's owned the car for about 4 years and has daily driven it back and forth to work, which makes it a dependable car.

I'm not concerned about the gas mileage because I feel that it's worth it, because nothing can beat a classic 1966 Mustang (my dream car!). I was somewhat pushed into getting the 2001 V6 Ford Mustang and wasn't really ever happy with it, so I feel that this is a car I could keep for the rest of my life ifnothing happened to it.

That's about it...

BTW, does anyone know the capacity of a stock fuel tank for a 1966?

gas mileage will be worse but you will be a whole lot happier driving everywhere. all the stares and thumbs up. its defiantly worth it. btw, when i drove mine daily i got around 10/11 but i had a heavy foot.

Sixteen gallons. You can put a 70 tank with 22 a gallon capacity.

Well, if things work out to my advantage and I get this beauty, I highly doubt I will act like an idiot while driving it.

66GTKFB - How hard would it be to get my hands on an 70' tank and what would it involve in switching them out?

Thanks

NPD has two types of 22 gallon tanks, with a drain $149.95, with-out $138.95. Remember the top of the gas tank is the bottom of the trunk. The trunk mat is it. I recomend an under trunk mat to further insulate the tank from noise and dents, NPD $11.50.
The best milage I ever got in a 66 289 4V was 18.1 MPG. I got that in a cross country run of 3200 miles, with a 66.1 mile per hour average. Around town, expect 12 to 14 MPG tops.
