turn signal doesn't work all the time
Hey guys-
I need help. I have a 67 Mustang coupe I have been restoring and I am having a problem with the turn signals. The right one works fine but the left one works some times and some times it doesn't. I have changed the bulbs and it still does the same thing. My son-in-law thinks I need to replace something in the steering column. I don't think he knows what he is talking about. Any one got any ides. |
RE: turn signal doesn't work all the time
Its most likely the turn signal switch. Does it seem to fall down past center toward the left turn position, kind of loose and floppy? That can also cause your left brake light to not work.

check your blinker fluid...jk jk
it could be the switch that is right under the steering wheel, after 40 years of use they tend to wear out |
RE: turn signal doesn't work all the time
I have the exact same problem. I replaced the bulb, the turn signal switch, and now I don't know what to do. It's strange because the left turn signal light on the hood works, just not on the instrument panel.
Any ideas? |
RE: turn signal doesn't work all the time
Pull the steering wheel and check out the turn signal switch located under it for broken plastic, contacts or something jammed. Replacement switches are available.

Gee, do you think you can get your keyboard fixed. It seems to have some built-in hostility, that quite possibility translated itself into making an easy automotive task - difficult. I've replaced three of the four 65-66 Mustang turn signal switchesI own (actually the third completed steering column is sitting back here in my computer room), replaced two in 67 Mustangs rescently and one in a 68 - all successufully I might add. There is one other item to look at and that's the steering wheel where the cancel 'cam' is located.

RE: turn signal doesn't work all the time
Replacing the cam usually fixes the cancelling function. Usually you have to replace the turn signal assembly to fix the light issues. Another place to look in just to the left of the column under the dashwhere the wires enter the kickboard paneland run to the back. There will be a plug there and often it looses contact. Clean and reconnect and see if this takes care of your problem. Also you can fiddle with the column (flashers and signals) and have someone look at the rear when you do this. If it works any at all, that is your trouble spot. Replace the assembly.

RE: turn signal doesn't work all the time
i went throgh the same thing with my 65 mustang. the horn shorted out in the steering column and the turn signal indicator in the instrument cluster only worked on the left turn signal. i replaced the whole turn signal assembly in the steering column including the canceling cam and the wires that lead to the connectors under the dash. i got it all put back together and now the horn works but i have no turn signals and the indicator only works on the right turn signal. i can hear the turn signal flasher clicking but there is no turn signals.i cant figure it out.... any info or a wiring diagram would be greatly appreciated
