#1 PLUG WIRE ON A 1966 289CI
Can someone please help? I just purchased a 1966 Mustang Convertible with the 289CI engine. Standing in front of the car, looking at the distributor cap and wire......which wire should go to the #1 cylinder???? No, they're connected now, like an idiot I pulled them off and didn't mark them. I know the firing order should be 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Manually turn the engine to top dead center on the compression stroke for the #1 cylinder and see where your rotor is. That is where #1 plug goes. You do know which cylinder is number one???

If your going to be doing restoration and minor engine work you should pick up a shop manual at your local parts store. You may have to order it due to the year of your vehicle but it will be worth it's weight in gold when problems arise.

Hello!
On my 66 Fastback with the same engine (289) and the same fireing order the first cylinder is NOT the one in the shop manuals.
If you look on the cap you will find "pairs" of cables like 2 almost on the top (windshield direction), 2 bottom (front of the car) and 2 left and 2 right.
Sorry my english is not that good, hope you understand what I mean.
My first cylinder is the upper one on the left pair. Here is a rough "drawing":
