Default what cams and 4bbl intake would you recommend for a 351w

Am looking to place a mild cam and a 4bbl intake on my "H" code 70 mach1.For now those are the only things I can upgrade with the car. What would you recommend?

Of course I have a 4bbl carb waiting. One 600cfm edel and a 650cfm holley double pumper. This is for a car equipped with an automatic. And while it has a 9inch diff i suspect it has a mild ratio.

Thanks.

are you trying to work within the realm of stock springs?

yup. everything else would be stock for an original 2bbl H code. All budget permits.

what kind of exhaust? is it least dual with stock manifolds? getting headers would be a mighty fine jump, but with that being said....

THIS CAM with lifters is 90 bucks. the .472 ex. lift is the MAX you can get away with using stock springs, and thats if your springs are still stiff after all these years.

THIS CAM
would be easier on your springs, and would still perform much better than your stock bumpstick but is 170 bucks

THIS CAM would probably be the best for your range, but again is pushing your stock springs to their limits. 175 bucks

my personal reccomendation would be the last cam, along with THESE springs. you can change them with the heads still on the motor.

as for an intake,

WIEAND STEALTH for 200 bucks would be your best bet.

My machine shop is putting the edlebrock performer cam/lifter set ($156) in my 351 right now,, and I plan on getting the performer intake and either a 600cfm edlebrock 4brl carb or a holley 570 street avenger to match it when I get the funds. I also have a pair of hooker competition headers ($180) that just came in yesterday to put in when I get the motor back on tuesday... It seemed like a no brainer,, the cam is good from idle to 5000rpm and with that lift I think that the lifters will give before the springs.. Anyway.. keep an eye out for my post when I get it running this week, and I will let you know how the engine responded to the performer camwith the stock 2 barrel on it for now..

hey boogerschnot, a performer cam isnt very impressive at all on a 351w, the same grind is used in the 289-302 performer. it does add some low end but is better suited to a truck ot tow vehicle. I tried one in a 351w and yanked it out two months later.

A comp cams 260h or 268h will work great even with stock springs and a stealth intake and 1 5/8 headers
