how to get torque converter off
I can't get the torque converter off the back of the engine so that I can mount it to the stand. It seems there are 3 bolts holding it on. I tried to get one off, and it started to "round" it off. I backed off, cause I don't want that to happen. I sprayed some PB Blaster before I left last night. Any tips?

Use the correct socket and a 1/2 inch ratchet and you shouldn't have any problems. Are you going through the inspection plate area (under trans and between the trans and engine)? Using an open-end wrench is a No No on a bolt like this. These things are usually over-torqued, but should still be on there very tight. Isn't there four bolts holding the torque converter on the flexplate?

TC is held to the flywheel with 4 nuts. You can only see them one at a time as the motor is rotated the flywheel and TC will spinaround so that each nut will clears the back of the block and become visible(they are on the oil pan side of the flywheel)

Ohhh! I am such an idiot. Now I see why my family says I have no common sense
Duh, I didn't even think about rotating it down to where it is accessible on the bottom. Thanks guys!

RE: how to get torque converter off
Well I got three off with no problem, but the fourth one is giving me fits. The problem now is that the torque converter turns when I try to loosen the nut. I propped up a peice of wood against it, but that didn't work. Any more brilliant tips? I could get someone to hold it, but seems dumb to have someone come all that way for one thing.

Just wedge a screwdriver or something in the teeth of the flexplate. Other than that, you can get someone to hold the bolt on the front of the crank snout with a breaker bar, but that will require someone else, unless you have really long arms.

Or use a deep well socket and just turn it until the socket ends up against the bell housing and push.. Thats how I did it. Thats also how I tightened them back on when I put the motor back in.. Little hint,, buy some more torque converter nuts when you re-install..
