Default Are you Smarter than 5 Mustang Experts?

I have taken my car back to the shop for the 6th time. I have a slight oil leak (several drops) that appears after driving. The drops end up on the bottom of the bell housing. After a day, or so, it will stop... until driving again.

The rear main seal has been replaced recently. They are not sure if it's the transmision (keep in mind it is an oil leak) or if it's one the plugs in the engine block or maybe the rear mail seal was improperly replaced. They even used a scope but can't find the source.

I don't wantto tear apart the car for a small leak (plus it could run 8 to 14 hours of labor to drop the engine and tranmssion). What do you think it could be? Would you just live with it? Or wait until it gets worse (if it does).

Keep in mind the car is supercharged which puts lots more stress on the engine.

Any ideas?

HELP!

it could be runing down the back of the block from anywhere intake head gaskets or valve covers.is it a stick or auto a stick uses gear oil which goes look like motor oil.put it on a lift start it up leave it in park or neutral and have somone hold it at a set rpm for 10 to 15 mins crawl under it and look to see where the oil is coming from.

Is their any way its comming from the uppermost of the rear of the oil pan (the half moon section). I have the same oil pan on a 13.5 to 1 race engine and its always has a little oil on the bell housing. So far its not such a big issue that I have made much effort to fix other that wiping it off, as it not that severe. It only happens when I run the car and bring it up to tempature. I think that maybe the aluminum is expanding at a different rate and allows some uneven pressure on the gasket. I have heardthe same complaintfrom several people that have the same aluminum pan. I would think that maybe it is a chronic problem with these pans. If you find the fix, let me know.

Though it could be the Flexplate bolts, not have been sealed.
I'd go with the chronic aluminum pan leakage. Keep an eye on it, prolly not a big deal.

The dye is a good idea. I never relized how difficult a leak can be to trace. How many potential leaks sources are on a 65/66 automatic fastback? A couple dozen spots?

That looks like an auto trans? if yeah the oil should be red if its a trans leak...If not then it should smell nasty like gear oil if its a trans leak.

Mine has a few very small leaks I gave up trying to find them......I think its a rear main seal or an oil pan that despite my best efforts never fully seated.

PS. Our cars don't leak oil...They just mark their territory

I know this may be a dumb question, but what kind of oil? Dyno or Synthetic?
