yeah, like a lot of people have said, take your time. deffentally be a perfectionist on your body work, and clean the metal very well, if you dont clean the metal before you apply self etching primer (sticks better to metal than normal primer that you get for hvlp guns) there could be some major problems later on. also before you go from primer to base layer, guide coat the primer and block it out with 180 grit sand paper, do this mainly around your bondo/ major body work areas. by blocking out these areas you eliminate the scratchs and low/high spots caused by the body work. then go to 240 grit, and then finally to 400. make sure there are NO scratchs in the primer, because if there are scratchs in primer then they will eventually show up in paint, which you are going to regret later. so like i said, take your time on prep, the paint is only bout 5% of actually making the car look good, the other is in prep.
sorry if that was a rant, lol
but yeah the flat black striped would be sweet on top of high gloss black
good luck
im sure its going to be sweet!

Wow haha i thought i was the only one that had that dvd set.Dude is s tweaker lookin fella then i saw him on trucks with out the mullet and laughed til i nearly fell off the couch.Good points in the videos tho.
And you can get the paint, reducer, clear, hardner, etc.at any auto paint supply, and paint is anywhere from 100 to about a grand a gallon. The average person will not spend 1000 per gallon but its just to give you an idea.
ORIGINAL: cmanf

Books arent bad but try Paintucation dvd. vcr from eastwood I have that one I picked up years agp it gives some good instructions.
BTW the guy that does it is the new guy on trucks tv show now. He has lost the mullet.lol

We used almost 1 gallon of black base, 1 quart of argent for the hood and rocker panel stripes and 1.5 gallons of clear. I have about 5 coats of clear and at least 2 coats of color.
BTW there are a lot of imperfections due to all kinds of things. But with the grace of God the color sanding and buffing 99% will come out.
