Default Best way to cut off bolt heads?

Removing the front valance from my 65. The last two bolts at the bottom of the fender joint are not coming off. One won't move and the other is spinning...probably stripped the clip behind it. I don't have a wheel grinder but I do have a drills with grinding heads, and in about two more days I will will have a nice reciprocating Sawzall...at least that's what the package under the tree feels like...and I did point it out to her in the store...twice! Grind or cut? I think there is enough room for a saw blade as long as I am careful. The area is kind of rounded. Grinding seems like it would take a long time.

Vice grips on the spinning clip nut, cheater bar on the other. Don't forget to soak them in PB Blaster overnight first.

If you can hold the spinning clip, torque them till they break...

If you can't do this I have found that it is usually reasonably easy to drill the heads out of the bolts/screws. (when the bolts are not hardened)Get them close and just breakthe small margin thatremains.

PB blaster?
Maybe you've seen other penetrants like Liquid Wrench? Can't work on an old car without some penetrant.

I tried penetrant first. That's how I got the rest of them off. I'll try the vice grip next on the spinning bolt. I've got a length of pipe that fits over my socket handle so I'll give that a go on the stuck one. I was being lazy on that one. To get the clearance for the pipe I have to raise the car. Interesting...four of the bolts were metric. The ones at the fenders. Those are the stuck ones. I didn't think anything was metric in 65. Maybe the previous owner replaced the originals. Looks like I'll be replacing all of them and the clips as well.

I've used a die grinder before but I know you said you don't have one so PB BLASTER and vise grips ftw!!

honeygoldcoupe,

Why don't you trust your instincts about the Sawzall and wait for Santa?

James,
Is that a photo advertisement or a felony in progress?
