Im almost positive it depends on your tire. Look that the sidewall really closely and it should say the max cold inflate pressure.

you know, i always wondered that, because i know on new cars, or semi newish atleast, there is a card onthe inside of the door that u follow and that is best for the car. its not always what the tire dictates as its max. does anybody have an idea of what im talking about in reference to our mustangs, other than the, well, i like how this pressure feels when im driving on the street

IMPORTANT: - the pressure on the tire sidewall is NOT the recommended inflation pressure. All that the tire sidewall pressure information means is that it is the maximum inflation pressure that the tire is rated to withstand. Most tires these days have a sidewall pressure number of 44 psi or higher. There are a very few reasons for ever running tire pressures that high, but normal street driving on appropriately-sized tires isn't one of them.

I may be able to help you a bit if you can tell me your car's weight and what size tires you have including the "load index number" that's also on the sidewall (probably a 90-ish sort of number).

Briefly, the inflation pressure that you need to run depends on the weight of your car and the size(s) of the tires. Sometimes you might make further adjustments for such things as unusual trunk loads, trailer towing, or for some specific handling goal.

I use tread wear as a referance for tire pressure. If you wear the center of the tire more then the outsde edges its too high and if both outside edges wear more its to low but if only 1 outside edge wears more you either have an alignment problem (inside edge) or its from cornering (outside edge). For example on my ranger I run 32lbs in the front and 28lbs in the rear. The front has all the wight on the engine and me on them and the rear has almost no weight on them. Start with about 32lbs and ajust from there.
